Blot immediately, dilute with a little water, blot again, and dry fully. Milk that reaches the foam will sour and usually needs professional extraction.
Why milk is the worst spill
Milk soaks through carpet into the padding, where bacteria turn it sour. The smell is persistent and heat makes it worse.
First aid for spills
- Blot, don't rub, with towels
- Dilute with a small amount of water and blot again
- Press dry towels into the area to pull moisture up
- Air the car out until fully dry
If the smell stays
Once it's in the padding, extraction equipment is usually needed. Our interior detailing with odor removal handles it.
