Wax gives great gloss but wears fastest. Sealant lasts longer. Ceramic coating lasts the longest and needs the most prep. All three protect paint; they differ in durability and effort.
Wax
Usually carnauba-based. Warm, deep shine and easy to apply. Wears off soonest, so it needs reapplying more often.
Paint sealant
A synthetic polymer layer. Slicker and longer-lasting than wax with a sharp, glossy look. A good middle ground for daily drivers.
Ceramic coating
Bonds to the clear coat and cures hard. The most durable and easiest to keep clean, but it locks in whatever is under it, so paint is usually corrected first.
Which should you choose?
- Want shine on a budget → wax
- Want longer protection without a big prep job → sealant
- Want the longest-lasting, easiest-to-clean finish → paint correction + ceramic coating
