Removing Caliche and Red Clay From Your Truck

Caliche dust and clay get into everything on country roads. Here's how to clean them out without scratching paint.

Why it's tough

Caliche is fine and gritty. Wiping it dry drags particles across the paint and causes scratches.

Exterior cleanup

Always rinse first:

  • Pre-rinse to flush loose grit
  • Use plenty of soapy water and a clean mitt
  • Clean wheels and wheel wells separately
  • Dry with a fresh microfiber

Interior cleanup

Vacuum mats and carpets thoroughly, then scrub stubborn clay stains. Door jambs and seat rails collect a lot of dust too.
