Paint correction is machine polishing that removes a very thin layer of clear coat to level out swirls, scratches, oxidation and water spots, so the paint reflects clearly again.
What it removes
- Swirl marks from washing
- Light scratches
- Oxidation and fading
- Etched water spots
- Haze and dullness
Single-stage vs. multi-stage
Single-stage uses one polish to improve gloss and remove lighter defects. Multi-stage starts with a more aggressive compound for heavier defects, then refines with a finer polish.
Correction vs. a wax job
Wax sits on top and can fill tiny marks temporarily. Correction actually removes the defects. That's why correction is usually done before a sealant or ceramic coating.
